1 dead, 4 injured in Cordillera due to Typhoon Paeng

Tabuk City, Kalinga – An individual was killed while 4 were hurt in the Cordillera Region after Typhoon Paeng slammed the country last week.


The casualty is an elderly man from Balbalan, Kalinga identified as Severino Lumacday,61.

He was found by the Kalinga Search and Rescue Team along the Chico River in Sitio Calbayan, Catabbogan, Pinukpuk following a two-day search and rescue operation after he went missing when he fell into a creek and was carried away by raging waters on October 29.


The injured, meantime, include 2 from Buguias, Benguet, and 2 from Tinoc, Ifugao.


Damaged houses


As for damaged houses, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said 12 were totally wrecked while 169 houses were partially damaged.


Of the totally damaged houses, 3 are from Banaue, Hingyon, and Asipulo, Ifugao, 2 from Lubuagan, Kalinga, 4 from Sadanga and Barlig, Mt. Province, and one each from Buguias, Benguet, Kabugao, Apayao, and Baguio City.

As for the partially damaged ones, 51 are from Kalinga, 36 in Benguet, 29 in Mt. Province, 28 in Ifugao, 24 in Abra, and 1 in Apayao.


DSWD-CAR has already given P105,000 in financial assistance to typhoon victims across the region on Monday, November 1.


Fifteen families received P75,000 pesos through the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program while the two injured got P20,000.


“Nabigyan naman ng Php 10,000 ang isang pamilya na namatayan sa Balbalan, Kalinga, dulot parin ng pagragasa ng STS Paeng,” DSWD-CAR reported.
