1 missing after motorboat capsized in Cagayan River


Appari, Cagayan – A 38-year-old man went missing while seven others, including a child swam to safety after an incident of boat capsize took place in the Cagayan River in Barangay Macanaya, Appari 8 PM of Friday, November 11.


Maritime police said the motorboat carrying 8 people was heading to Barangay Punta of said town when the incident happened.


Report said the group was supposed to attend a relative’s wake in said barangay.


While in the middle of the Cagayan River, particularly at the riverside in Macanaya, Aparri, their boat capsized.

Police Lieutenant Robin Guanga of the PNP Maritime identified the individuals who survived the incident as Rey Taguba, 23; Ljay Ocampo, 17; Ebo Persona 27, Jungie Paggabao 24; Fernando Leste ,36; Reynante Villanueva, 27 ; and Cassidy Leste, 10.


The missing individual, meantime, is Erold Leste, 38, a resident of Paruddun Sur in Aparri.


Guanga said the group left at 6:30 PM of same date. The darkness at that time might have caused them not to notice the strong waves of the river.


The search continues for the missing man.
