10 4Ps students in Tinglayan provided P200k rental assistance

Updated: Jun 5

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Ten high school students in Tinglayan received on Tuesday, May 28, a total of P200,000 house rental assistance.

Said students are active recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) who are living in areas with no secondary schools and thus need to study in nearby barangays which have one.

Each of the recipients, who were represented by their parents, received P20,000.

4Ps PDO III Maria Madiguid, in an interview, said the cash assistance equates to 10-months rental fee for their boarding houses.

“[Daytoy ket] pambayad dagituy beneficiaries nga awan dagituy high school facilities idiay area da nga tapnu haan da nga agdrop-out ket ag-enroll da iti sabali nga barangay. So adda ti 20,000 for the school year nga kasla 2,000 per month nga pambayad da ti boarding,” she explained.

The cash assistance is part of the Alternative Family Home under the Enhanced Support Services Intervention (ESSI) Program.

DSWD said the program provides a house rental subsidy for active Pantawid beneficiaries, particularly homeless families, indigenous peoples and those belonging to other vulnerable groups who have unique dynamics and ways of living.

With the program, needed support intervention could address the risks and vulnerabilities of those families.

In a statement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed gratitude to the agency for the provision of such assistance, which is of importance to its beneficiaries.

For the recipients’ parents, the mayor advised them to guide and prioritize their children’s education as the government has also many programs backing them.

Gumilab likewise reaffirmed his support for the program and committed to looking for funds that would offer stable livelihoods, especially for the marginalized ones.
