10 firecracker injuries logged in Region 2 days before New Year

Cagayan, Philippines – Three days ahead of New Year’s Eve, the Cagayan Valley region has already monitored 10 firework-related injuries.

The Department of Health Region 2 disclosed this December 28, 2022, that these 10 injuries documented from December 21 to December 28 were mostly from Cagayan and Isabela.

Eight of the victims were said to be male. Likewise, one of the 10 was admitted to the hospital while the rest were treated and sent home.

These 10 individuals who were injured were mostly using "boga" and "kwitis".

Meantime, the Cagayan Valley Police Regional Director, PBGen. Percival Rumbaoa has reminded the police in the region not to tolerate the use of unauthorized firecrackers. He likewise instructed them to avoid indiscriminate firing that may endanger the lives of the people.

“…Be mindful of your surroundings. Remind fellow men in uniform as well as civilian gun holders on responsible firearm handling for a peaceful and jolly holiday celebration. We must deliver public service with humility, professionalism, justice, and fairness,” he underscored.

The police are still on full alert until January 10 next year to promote public safety this Yuletide season.
