10-year-old girl raped and killed in Santiago City

Santiago City, Philippines − A 22-year-old man is now facing rape with homicide charges for the death and sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl found floating at the Maribet River in Barangay Baluarte last May 24, 2022.

The lifeless victim wearing a dark t-shirt and shorts was discovered around 1:30 PM when a citizen went to do his laundry at the Maribet River in Purok 4, Baluarte.

Four days after they found the girl’s body, the suspect, identified by the Police Regional Office 2 as a certain Mark Alvin Pariawan, surrendered to the authorities and was thereafter charged with rape and homicide before the Santiago City Prosecutor’s Office.

Based on the autopsy done by the Santiago City Forensic Unit, the 10-year-old victim sustained several stab wounds on her body that resulted in her death.

The result confirmed that the girl was raped due to a laceration on her sexual organ and anus.

The Police Regional Office 2 earlier condemned the incident with Police Brigadier General Steve Ludan, ordering an in-depth investigation of the case to give justice to the minor victim.

"Masakit at mabigat sa pakiramdam na ang isang musmos at inosenteng bata ay walang awang pinaslang at nakaranas ng matinding karahasan mula sa kamay ng mga walang pusong kriminal. Gagawin namin ang lahat ng aming makakaya upang mabigyan ng hustisya ang kanyang pagkamatay," he stated.
