10-yr.-old kid taken by waves in Abulug, Cagayan beach

Abulug, Cagayan – A 10-year-old boy died after he was swept out to sea by big waves while playing on a beach with his friend on Sunday, August 4.

The tragic incident happened in Sitio Muru, Siguiran, Abulug, Cagayan.

Abulug police, in their press release, said the victim was just playing with his friend at the beach when he was carried away by a strong rip current resulting in the incident.

The police said they were first notified that day about the drowning case involving a grade 5 learner whose identity was withheld, but while on their way to respond, the barangay captain informed that the boy was recovered.

After he was pulled out from the water, rescuers applied first aid to the child before taking him to a nearby medical facility. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

With what happened, police reminded the public to prioritize the safety of their kids when swimming at the beach, especially in areas with strong waves.

Additionally, a similar drowning incident was also reported earlier in which the dead body of a fisherman in Lallo was recovered on the morning of Monday, August 5, at the Cagayan River.

The victim, identified as Rolando Ramos, only went fishing on Sunday but never came home after dark. Authorities said the man also drowned.
