10th Etag Festival in Sagada slated for February

Sagada, Mt. Province – After a two-year break, the major crowd-drawing festival of Sagada, Mt. Province returns in full blast this February 2 to 5.

Conceptualized in 2010 by the local council, Etag Festival has become an annual event that features the culture and traditions of the people of Sagada by staging events enjoyed by residents and tourists.

Etag is pork meat preserved through salting, smoking over a low fire, or sun-drying, and is an important part of the life of ySagadas, especially in rituals for different occasions. Traditionally, etag is used as an additive to dishes such as ‘pinikpikan’ to enhance its taste.

With the theme, "Napigsa ay Kultura ya Pammati, Wedweday i-Gabay ya Isikan di Umili," the kick-off program of this year’s festival was held on Dec. 22, 2022 with a community dance.

Among the activities lined up for the full-blast celebration in February are the civic-military parade and feast of Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the presentation of the Lord Jesus on Feb. 2, 2023, at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin softball ground; agro-gastro fair and launching of the Sagada tourism tagline on Feb. 3, 2023, at the municipal ground; Cultural Day on Feb. 4, 2023, at the community court; and Culminating and Thanksgiving Day on Feb. 5, 2023, also at the community court.

Street dancing competition, dance contest, fusion cook fest challenge, Battle of the band, and Miss Sagada search will likewise be conducted.

Ball games such as Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball will be played by the registered teams.

Interested runners may register for the Etag Festival Run through the link, tinyurl.com/etagrun23 . Winners in this event will also receive trophies and bonus prizes from Log Cabin Sagada, Sagada Weaving, and Sagada Cellar Door.
