10th placer Robusta Coffee from Kalinga up for auction

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

Lubuagan, Kalinga – The 10th placer honey-processed Robusta coffee of yLubuagan coffee grower Olimpo Lumasok will be up for auction in the local and international markets this coming April 23, 2022.

Lumasok’s Robusta coffee was top 10 during the 2022 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC) held on March 18, 2022 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel Garden Pavillion in Davao City.

Having ranked 10th in the competition, the coffee of Lumasok of Barangay Canao, Lubuagan, is among the winning Robusta and Arabica coffee that will be featured in the 2022 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition Auction set on April 23.

To join the auction, interested individual and bidders shall have to register through https://auction.pcqc.coffee/en/ before April 20, 2022.

The bidding will start 8:00 PM Philippine Standard Time, 8:00 AM Eastern Time, and 1:00 PM GMT.

Ron Yu, Executive Director of The Philippine Coffee Guild and the organizer of the 2022 PCQC, explained that the auction aims to showcase the winning products of coffee farmers in the country, providing them the opportunity to sell their coffees in the local and international markets.

“This auction opens doors for the winning coffee farmers to showcase their hard work and have a fair chance of selling their coffees, both in local and international markets at very rewarding prices. It also builds economic relationships with the marketplace and financially motivates them to stay in the farm and continuously improve their coffee,” he stated.

Meantime, Lumasok’s Robusta coffee is the only entry from the Cordillera Administrative Region that won in the 2022 PCQC.

In an earlier interview with Guru Press, Lumasok revealed that their coffee plantation is located along the river in Barangay Mabilong and far from the road access. This, he perceived, may be one of the reasons why their coffee tastes good and like guava since it is free from the smoke pollution coming from vehicles.

Last year, Lumasok has exported their coffee to the City of New Orleans in Louisiana in the United States of America.
