11-yr.-old drowns following epilepsy attack while fishing in Santa Teresita Cagayan

Sta. Teresita, Cagayan - An 11-year-old boy died after he drowned in an irrigation canal in Santa Teresita, Cagayan, on Tuesday, September 17.

Police reported that the boy, Junjun, and his two friends went fishing by the irrigation canal in Barangay Villa after their classes were canceled that day due to typhoon "Gener”.

Since they didn’t have a “pamain” or bait, Junjun ordered the two to find some while he stayed behind.

When his buddies returned to the place, they found Junjun already floating in the water. The boys immediately sought help from the residents in the area to rescue him.

The residents, in response, did their best to revive the victim, but despite their efforts, Junjun was not able to survive.

Follow-up investigations by the Cagayan police revealed that Junjun, as confirmed by his stepfather, was suffering from epilepsy.

Since the stepfather believed that Junjun’s illness might have caused him to fall into the irrigation canal which led to his drowning, the police ruled out no foul play happened in the incident.
