115 delegates participate in Betwagan, Butbut sub-tribes youth summit


Lubuagan, Kalinga – Over a hundred of young people from Sadanga, Mt. Province and Kalinga attended the youth leadership summit held by the Kalinga police as an avenue to instill peace and harmony among the youth of the warring subtribes of Butbut in Tinglayan and Betwagan in Sadanga.


The youth summit is currently being conducted at the Awichon Cultural Village and is set to be finished on Friday, August 19.


Kalinga police said not only the youth of Butbut in Tinglayan are the participants coming from the province but also the youngsters from other tribes of the host municipality and Pasil.


The summit was initiated by the Officers’ Ladies Club-Kalinga Chapter led by Ms Joyce Tagtag, Adviser, Kalinga Chapter in partnership with the Kalinga Police led by Provincial Director PCOL Peter M. Tagtag Jr.

Aside from promoting harmony and creating closer ties among the youths of the clashing subtribes, police said the youth summit aimed at educating the youth to gain skills of building relationships within teams to determine and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as grasping principles and core beliefs.


“Providing these youth opportunities would make them exercise their capabilities in different context, which hopefully would develop in them the fundamental values of becoming potential leaders in resolving conflicts, understanding and managing change, visionaries, disciplined and leaders in style and in action,” Kalinga police said.


Activities during the two-day event


As told by the organizers, the two-day event highlights lectures and team building activities.

Topics for the lectures include the Role of the Youth in the Community, Leadership, Security Awareness, overview of the “Bodong” System, Youth Leadership ’Sulat-Kamay’, Financial Literacy and Information Education Campaign on Entrepreneurship Program for the Youth.


Speakers also discuss to the youngsters Youth Conflict Resolution/Autonomy and Building Resilient Community of Peace-Maximizing the Role of the Youth in Conflict and Conflict Resolution.


The participants are likewise expected to engage in team building activities to bring out the confidence in them which they could use in socializing with other people especially with their fellow youth.
