119 Barangay Tanods in Santa Marcela train to improve services

Santa Marcela, Apayao-  119 Barangay Tanods from the 13 barangays in town were capacitated through a two-day Refresher training to improve their performance and services in their communities. 


Said training took place at the EKB gymnasium, in November 21-22,2024.


The first day featured discussion of crucial topics which included (1) profile of a Barangay Tanod, (2) their roles in BPOC, (3) Gender Sensitivity (Rights Based Approach:Proper Handling of cases involving women, (4) Child-Friendly Barangay Tanod ( Rights Based Approach: Proper handling cases involving children and (5) Human Rights Overview: Concepts, Pronciples and Laws.


On the second day of training, the Barangay Tanods received lectures on basic patrol operations, traffic assistance, arrest technique, use of Non-lethal Weapon,  strategies as First Reponders, and crime prevention with personnel from Santa Marcela Police, BFP, and MDDRMO who served as resource speakers. 


DILG staff on Thursday said, the program is aligned on the Enhanced Barangay Newly Elected Officials (BNEO) initiative of DILG and Provincial Local Government through the Gobyernong Elias, which was designed to raise the Bar of Good Governance among barangay Tanods by capacitating them to become more efficient partners in community development. 


Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez, in her previous talk , underscored the crucial roles of said workers in providing support to crime prevention efforts to ensure public safety,recognizing their efforts, sacrifices and contributions in maintaining peace and order in their communities. 


Mayor Martinez likewise expressed gratitude to the DILG and Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. for said program as it greatly aids in enhancing the skills and knowledge of participants in providing better services, which inturn benefits the whole town.
