124 irrigators in Apayao received over P1.9M wage thru TUPAD


Luna, Apayao - After completing their assigned work for thirty days, 124 irrigators in Apayao recently received their wage totaling P1,935,000 from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE - Apayao).

 

This initiative is part of the agreement signed by the DOLE, the National Irrigation Administration-Cordillera, and the Federation of Irrigators Association-Cordillera, under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa mga Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

 

The agreement, which was launched in 2023, primarily aims to improve the irrigation service in the region while providing emergency employment to unemployed individuals.


Benefiting from the program were members of the seven farmer-irrigators associations from the municipalities Luna, Pudtol, and Flora, Apayao.

 

These include the Sunrise ti Balluyan Irrigators’ Association (IA), Brgy. Allig Farmers IA, Marimay Lateral A of Marians IA, Obbog ti Rang-Ay IA, Upper Maton River IA, and Dona Loreta IA.

 

They conducted canal clearing and maintenance activities in various irrigation facilities and irrigation systems in the province over 30 days.

 

Their salaries were given to them during the payout ceremonies on March 14, 2024, which took place in two separate venues - in the Apayao Irrigation Management Office (IMO) main office in Flora, Apayao, and the sub-office in Abulug, Cagayan.

 

Leading the distribution was NIA Apayao Irrigation Management Office Head Samuel Bahiwag along with DOLE Apayao representatives Lerma Esteban and Loodie Agbayani.
