13 passengers injured in Benguet jeepney road crash

Benguet, Philippines – Thirteen passengers were taken to Baguio General Hospital following a vehicular accident that happened on the afternoon of October 10, 2022, in Sitio Slide, Tuding, Itogon, Benguet.

The victims were identified as James Balbalin, 69, resident of Slide, Tuding, Itogon, Framees Anne Carlos Bulos, 23, a resident of Synide, Ucab, Zachery Maxin Bulos Killase, 11 months old, Yvonne Carlos Bulos, 19, and a resident of Synide, Ucab, and Cyhthialyn Lobinto, 29, Physical Therapist, and a resident of Midas, Ucab.

Said victims were later discharged after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Others injured were Lovely Angel Castro, 19, Dirk Wignner Tauli, 15, Nikki Molitas Otinguey, 22, Ma. Lourdes Bomogao, 42, a cook, Jennifer Aritao Bumidang, 47, a teacher, Jane Lupao Ngala, 47, Razel Dawayen Awing, 16 and Mariane Jelica Licoben, 19. They are all residents of Ucab, Benguet.

Itogon Municipal Police Station, through Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation, found in their investigation that the jeepney was going to Ucab when the driver lost control of the brake which sent the vehicle crashing on the right side of the road before overturning on its side.

The jeepney driver identified as Dennis Afidchao is now under the custody of Itogon MPS.

Police Major Mathew Burgos, chief of said Station, revealed that Afidchao may be discharged if no complainants from the victims come to the station to file a case against him for ‘Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Physical Injury.’

Meantime, Burgos reminded the general public, especially drivers, to inspect and ensure the safety of their vehicles before departing to avoid unfortunate accidents.
