13-yr.-old PWD drowns at Ganano river, Santiago City


Isabela, Philippines – A 13-year-old girl with a disability died from drowning in a river in Santiago City, Isabela, the police through XFM Santiago said.


The teen victim was first reported missing to the police station on Monday, May 15, 2023. Her family members believed she drowned in the river near their house at Purok 1, Dubinan West, Santiago City. This, they said, is due to the footprints they found at the riverside.

Rescue teams searched the area but failed to see the victim.


Just this morning, a male resident was about to harvest “gabi” (taro) at the Riverside Phase 2 of Saint James Subdivision, Batal, Santiago City when he discovered a floating body in the river. At first, he thought what he spotted was a mere doll but as he approached the object, he was taken aback to realize that it was human remains.


The police identified the casualty as Clarissa Latap whose body now lies at Romero Funeral.


On Saturday, an 8-year-old pupil and his uncle drowned while they were on a picnic at the Cagayan River in Tuguegarao City.


Authorities warned the public anew to take safety precautions when swimming, especially this summer.
