“130 barangays in Kalinga susceptible to flood, landslide”-MGB

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Civil Defense of Cordillera released on Tuesday, October 11, the list from Mines and Geosciences Bureau, identifying the barangays in the region that are susceptible to landslides and flooding.


The list is based on the rainfall data issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), as of 8 AM of said day.


In Kalinga, some 130 barangays were identified to have a potential risk of flood and landslide due to Typhoon “Maymay” that is expected to make landfall in Aurora on Thursday.

All the barangays in Pinukpuk, Rizal, Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pasil are said to be disaster-prone areas.


Also, risky areas are all Tanudan barangays, except Dupligan and Mabaca. In Tinglayan, only Buscalan, Loccong and Old Tinglayan are marked safe from flood and landslide.


In Tabuk City, 25 barangays were further labeled to be susceptible. These are Amlao, Bagumbayan, Balong, Cabaritan, Cabaruan, Casigayan, Dagupan Centro, Dagupan Weste, Dilag, Dupag, Gobgob, Guilayon, Lacnog, Lanna, Laya East, Laya West, Locog, Magnao, Magsaysay, Masablang, Nambaran, Nambucayan, Naneng, San Julian, and Tuga.


CDC noted that there may be additional areas to be added if PAG-ASA will send their updated forecast rainfall data.


The public and the disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and monitor the weather condition.
