14-yr-old boy died after slab cement fell on him while collecting iron bars from drainage project

Roxas, Isabela - A grade 4 pupil died on Tuesday, July 2, after he was hit by a large chunk of cement that fell from the top of an under-construction drainage canal in Barangay Bantung, Roxas, Isabela.

 

The deceased was identified as a fourteen-year-old student and a resident of the aforementioned area.

 

According to the information obtained by local media from the Roxas Police Station, before the incident, the victim was collecting iron bars with his younger brother in the excavated drainage project.

 

While the victim was trying to pull an iron bar, it was then that the tragic incident transpired.

 

The bystanders who witnessed the incident lifted the victim and rushed him to a hospital in the municipality. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

 

Meanwhile, Roxas Mayor Jonathan Jose Calderon relayed in his interview with local media that the LGU and the Department of Public Works and Highways have already set a date to visit the victim’s family and provide financial assistance to them.

 

He also made it clear that the incident was an isolated case based on the investigation conducted by the police.
