16-year-old dies after delivery truck hit motorcycle in Ilagan, Isabela

Ilagan, Isabela - A Grade 11 student died while his classmate was injured after their motorcycle was hit by a delivery truck on Friday, November 22, along the road in Barangay Alibagu, Ilagan City, Isabela.

The casualty was the back rider identified as Vincent Pagulayan, 16, while the injured individual was Samuel Valencia, 17, the rider.

They were on their way back home from school when they met the tragic accident on the afternoon of that day.

In the initial investigation conducted by the Ilagan PNP, the motorcycle and the delivery truck were travelling in the same direction towards Gamu, Isabela.

When the vehicles arrived at the scene of the accident, particularly on the down-slope part of the road, the truck's brake reportedly malfunctioned, resulting in the driver hitting the motorcycle he was following.

Due to the incident, the victims sustained severe injuries. The rescue team rushed them to a hospital nearby, but Pagulayan was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. Valencia survived and is still under treatment at the hospital.

The truck driver, who was identified as Emmanuel Navarro, 45, was not hurt. Currently, he is in the custody of Ilagan Police Station and will be charged if the matter is not settled amicably.
