164 Tinglayan rice farmers benefit from over P94k fertilizer discount voucher

Tinglayan, Kalinga – In an effort to increase rice yield in the municipality despite the soaring prices of rice fertilizers, fertilizer discount vouchers were provided to 164 yTinglayan rice farmers on Tuesday, September 5.

The awarding was spearheaded by the Office of the Municipal Agriculture Services (OMAS), a representative from the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera, and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) led by Supervising Agriculturist Delia Gonzalo.

Vouchers are distributed as part of the National Rice Program to help rice farmers augment the urea fertilizer needed for their rice production and stabilize the country’s rice supply despite issues with the cost of commercial fertilizers.

In Tinglayan, the discount voucher program benefitted farmers tilling a total of 25 hectares of rice farm lots and those registered under the Registration System for Basic Sectors of Agriculture (RSBSA).

Said voucher will then be utilized by said farmers as a discount on the retail price of urea fertilizers.

To make use of the voucher, recipients need only to buy at any accredited fertilizer merchants in the province but for yTinglayans, fertilizers were delivered by the DA-accredited fertilizer supplier considering its distance from Tabuk City.

The Department of Agriculture noted the voucher will only be used once by farmer-beneficiaries.

In a statement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, conveyed his message of thanks to the agriculture department for continuously providing assistance to his constituents.

He said the assistance is beneficial since farmers nowadays face difficulty not only with the skyrocketing prices of farm inputs but also basic commodities.

For the recipients, the local chief executive encouraged them anew to continue cultivating their rice farms and make use of the opportunity being provided by the government.

He likewise encouraged them to be of help in upholding the municipality's status as the leading producer of the well-known Kalinga Unoy rice.
