17 former rebels in Ifugao get P340K livelihood grant



Lagawe, Ifugao – 17 former rebels (FRs) in Ifugao were granted each a check amounting to P20,000.00 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development this November 6, 2020 at the Lagawe Central School Gymnasium through the department’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).


PIO Ifugao reported that the beneficiaries were former members of the New People’s Army and are residents of the Municipalities of Tinoc, Asipulo, Kiangan and Aguinaldo.


During the awarding ceremony, DSWD Assistant Secretary Joseline Niwane on her talk urged other rebels to come back to having a normal way of life and to respond positively to the programs of the government while the current administration is focused on providing assistance to FRs amidst the pandemic.


As for Governor Jerry Dalipog, he told the recipients to use the assistance for its actual purpose which is for the former rebels to establish for themselves means of livelihood project rather than using the money pay their debts.


The recipients expressed their gratefulness to the government for the support and pledged that they will use the aid according to what was mentioned to them.


Present during the awarding were OIC Cordillera Regional Director Leo Quintilla, DILG Provincial Regional Director Regina Elizabeth Mammag, 54th Infantry Battalion Commander LTC Frans Josef Diamante, PNP Ifugao Provincial Director David Mariano.


DSWD, through its SL program, is one of the lead agencies, together with other national line agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Reform among others implementing EO 70 of the Duterte administration which seeks to institutionalize the creation of the National Task Force to ELCAC.


DSWD’s SLP is a capability building program for poor, vulnerable, marginalized households and communities to which is meant to improve their socio-economic conditions through accessing and acquiring necessary assets to engage in and maintain a thriving livelihood.
