17 probable dengue cases detected in Tanudan in August 2024

Tanudan, Kalinga – Among the viral diseases on the rise this rainy season is dengue which multiplied in Kalinga this year.

 

The Provincial Health Office data from January to August 17, 2024, revealed a total of 1,352 dengue cases in the province were reported. This is three times higher compared to the 311 documented for the same period last year.

 

In Tanudan, the Municipal Health Office also saw an increase in their dengue probable cases, or those who turned positive in the NS1 test which indicates dengue virus infection. These cases shall be confirmed by another laboratory testing in Manila.

 

Tanudan Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Sandra Valledor informed they logged 17 dengue probable cases for August alone, this is almost twice higher than the 9 cases in July this year.

 

Valledor explained they immediately subject patients who have fever and chills to NS1 screening. Patients whose symptoms can still be managed at home are given medicines, but those who have serious cases and have other conditions are being referred to the hospital.

 

To address the increasing probable cases, all barangays in Tanudan did Oplan Taob or the cleaning of their surroundings to destroy mosquito breeding sites.

 

Tanudan MHO reiterated the practice of the Department of Health’s 5S Strategy to counter the rise of dengue cases in the municipality and the province.
