Peñablanca, Cagayan – A 19-year-old student from Peñablanca, Cagayan attempted to end her life amid the typhoon Florita by jumping off the Josepha Bridge but was fortunately dissuaded by the police.

A report by the Cagayan Provincial Police Office stated Officer-in-Charge, PMAJ Harold Ocfemia chanced upon the young woman while his team was patrolling the area as part of their work to ensure public safety due to the persistent rain and strong winds brought on by the typhoon.

The police saw the young woman about to jump when they immediately approached and stopped her.

With the police convincing the student to appreciate life, explaining suicide is not the solution to problems, the attempt was foiled.

The student later revealed that family issues made her think it would be better to put all her problems to an end by killing herself.

After receiving psychiatric counseling from Deputy Chief of Police PLT Juliet Quinagoran-Narag, the student is in a better state now. Later, she was brought back into the care of her parents.

As recalled, an 18-year-old senior high school student in Claveria, Cagayan hanged herself because of allegedly suffering from learning difficulties.
