Flora, Apayao- One hundred ninety-eight (198) Barangay Tanods in Flora went through 2-day Skills Enhancement training, on November 20-21, 2024 at Sta. Maria Evacuation and Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Said training was under the Enhanced Barangay Newly- Elected Officials towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent ( EBNEO-GREAT) Barangay Program, which aimed to enhance the capabilities of barangay tanods and other force multipliers,maintaining order, safeguarding public safety, protecting life and property, and preservation of crime scenes.
This training aims to equip mentally, and physically and strengthen the roles of BPATs as it plays a significant role in the development and progress of the Barangay, as one of the implementing mechanisms of the Barangay Peace and Order Committee (BPOC).
This was led by Flora LGU in collaboration with the DILG, Provincial Government of Apayao, Flora Municipal Police Station, BFP, and Apayao Provincial Management Committee (APMC).
Crucial lectures provided included Principles and Functions/ Core values of barangay police centered on accountability, transparency, and community service, Roles and Duties, Crime Scene Preservation, and Disaster Response strategies.
MLGOO Roderick Begtang, as one of the resource persons during said lectures reiterated the expected outcomes of the training, saying it will Improve Public Safety, enhance capabilities to maintain order and ensure public safety, effective Crime Prevention, and strengthened collaboration between barangay tanods and law enforcement agencies.
Furthermore, the Barangay Tanods were hoped to improve in preparedness and response operations to emergencies, as well as relationships among barangay officials and residents.
Mayor Rodolfo B. Juan, in his message underscored the Integral role of Barangay tanods in building and creating a peaceful and orderly society, geared towards an investment in the full potential of the people, developing a ripple effect that transforms individual lives and uplifts the province's overall well-being."
Mayor Juan said the LGU will continue to conduct regular training sessions and workshops for barangay tanods, to sustain their development.
Vice Mayor Jeofrey T. Blas, SB Members, Personnel from the Provincial Government Office, DILG- Apayao personnel, Municipal Administrator Ms. Marilou Valdez, and some employees from Mayor’s Office participated in said skills training.
