Quezon City, Philippines – The first Cordilleran Philippine National Police Chief PGen. Camilo Cascolan reached retirement and passed command to the National Capital Region Police Chief Gen. Debold Sinas this November 10, 2020.
Cascolan who hails from Baguio City became the 24th Chief PNP in September 2020 and after two months in the position reached the PNP’s mandatory retirement age of 56.
During the Change of Command Ceremony and Retirement Honors for Cascolan, he shared that his 38 years of service in the PNP have been the best journey of his life and that if given the chance, he would readily take the same journey again.
Cascolan reiterated that his alma mater, the Philippine Military Academy’s ideals of courage, integrity, and loyalty were the words that helped him, citing that it was courage that made him tougher amidst the dangers while he was in the battlefields in Mindanao.
“Like in my younger years, it was courage that enabled me and my team to apprehend rebels and confiscate the biggest number of high caliber firearms ... diminishing the high power capability of the enemy to mount attacks against government troops,” he added.
Cascolan further said that integrity along with the PMA’s Honor Code that states, ‘we don’t lie, cheat, steal, nor tolerate among us those who do,’ armed him well in the uniformed service while his loyalty to God, the country, and the people nurtured and sustained him.
“Courage, integrity, and loyalty coupled with the PNP Philosophy of providing quality police service with honor and justice are the ideals that each and every one of us in the uniformed service must treasure,” he further said, emphasizing that the only time that they will gain the honor is when they have served and given fair justice to the community.
PGen. Debold Sinas, 25th Chief PNP
Meanwhile, when Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said earlier this week that NCRPO Chief Sinas was named as the 25th PNP Chief, it sparked discussions among the netizens on social media due to his involvement in the controversial mañanita on May 8 this year.
Said event which was to mark Sinas’ birthday, allegedly violated the minimum health protocols such as social distancing and mass gatherings. He along with other personnel was charged for the matter.
During the Public Briefing by PTV Philippines this November 10, Sinas said he’s qualified to be the Chief PNP, citing that he has been through various positions which include Police Regional 7 and NCRPO Director, Secretary to the PNP Directorial Staff, and Director of Crime Laboratory.
"Ako po ay qualified. Kung sila po ay nagtataasan ng kilay nila, opinyon po nila iyon. Patotohanan ko na lang sa kanila later on na ako po ay qualified po maging Chief PNP,” he said.
