2 barangays in Santa Marcela receive free solar panels from OPAPRU and Mapua University

Updated: Aug 24

Santa Marcela, Apayao- The two barangays in Santa Marcela town, namely Marcela and San Antonio, were among the 21 target recipients of solar panels installation across the province to mitigate the undesirable impact of unexpected and frequent brownouts during barangay activities.

According to Santa Marcela LGU, the project was initiated and spearheaded by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), in partnership with the Mapua University’s Office for Social Orientation and Community Involvement Program (SOCIP).

It was said that such project is a part of OPAPRU’s Energy Conservation Program, which aligns with the Regional Local Peace Engagement broader activities.

The Installation of the units was held on August 14.

Local officials from the recipient barangays appreciated the initiative, acknowledging that the solar panels will save crucial events and activities in the barangays, even in schools, from disruptions brought by power outages.

Such initiative not only provides power supply but also promotes sustainable, and environmentally friendly energy practices within the community considering its source coming directly from the heat of the sun, said a local leader.

In her statement, Mayor Evelyn Martinez reminded the recipients to take care of the energy projects installed and properly utilize them to maximize the benefits. Martinez added that the solar panels, which will serve as an alternative source of energy, are expected to ensure the success of government services, especially matters about community welfare.

In Santa Marcela, several individuals and families also have their own solar panels installed in their homes in case frequent blackouts occur.
