2 dead, 3 injured in Conner, Apayao road mishap

Conner, Apayao – Two men died after the truck they were riding had a mechanical defect in Barangay Guina-ang, Conner around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22.

Said dump truck was traversing the descending part of the road at Sitio Sorong when the truck lost brakes, causing the driver, Kenny Buerano, to lose control of the vehicle, Conner Deputy Police Chief Julius Bagsawan told GURU Press Cordillera.

“Pasalog didiay, haan na makontrol ta pinmaspas iti lugan,” PLt. Bagsawan narrated, adding that the driver tried to stop the truck but it overturned on the road.

Rescuers arrived at the area and rushed Buerano and his companions identified as Jomel Azucena, Honesto Manicad, Andres Bayaua, and Joseph Catubag to Conner District Hospital.

According to the Deputy Chief of Police, Azucena was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. While being treated, after almost two hours, Manicad was also pronounced dead.

Buerano, on the other hand, was admitted to the hospital.

Catubag and Bayaua who were able to jump from the truck sustained abrasions. They were immediately discharged from the health facility.
