2 dead in Cordillera due to Typhoon Kristine

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Two men in the Cordillera region reportedly died due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

 

Typhoon Kristine, known by its international name Trami, brought torrential downpours and heavy winds in the region that triggered landslides and swelling of water sources. Almost all provinces of the region were under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 3 on October 24 - the date when an elderly drowned and a young farmer was buried alive in a landslide.

 

The first casualty is a 24-year-old man from Kibungan Benguet. Jasper Jones Amoy, a farmer, was casually working in his garden afternoon of October 24 in Buguias, Benguet when a sudden landslide occurred, burying him alive. He was rescued and was brought to the hospital immediately, but he was not able to survive.

 

In Sabangan, Mt. Province, a 60-year-old man identified as Francis Angel, was taken downstream by the swollen Chico River around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

 

Sabangan Emergency Operations Center immediately conducted a search operation and coordinated with Bontoc EOC, which lent them a hand in the search.

 

At around 11 a.m. today, October 25, Angel’s body was recovered at the Gonogon-Alab boundary in Bontoc, Mt. Province.

 

Meantime, as of 12 pm, the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera said there were already 1,225 families or 4,325 persons who evacuated from their homes while some of them opted to seek shelter from their friends and relatives.
