3 killed, 15 injured in Pugo, La Union bus mishap

Pugo, La Union – Three died while 15 were injured after a Victory Liner bus crashed into a tree on the right side of the Palispis - Aspiras highway in Pugo, La Union around 11 AM onTuesday, January 3.

Initial investigation revealed the bus left Baguio City terminal at around 9:30 in the morning and was bound for Cubao, Quezon City.

The hydrovac brake system of the bus malfunctioned after reaching the said highway, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle until it rammed into a tree and overturned on its right side.

Personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Pugo fire station, Pugo Municipal Police Station, and volunteers immediately responded to rescue the victims.

The bus conductor was declared dead on the spot.

The identities of the victims are yet to be released by authorities as their families were not yet informed of the tragic accident.

Other injured passengers were rushed to the Agoo District Hospital while those who sustained minor injuries were given immediate medical treatment at the Pugo court.

As of this writing, police are still conducting an in-depth investigation into the cause of the accident while appropriate charges will be filed by the local police against the bus driver.
