2 minors rescued from bar in Baguio

Baguio City, Philippines – Two minors from Pangasinan were rescued from an entertainment bar in Baguio City on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023.

The two, whose identities have been withheld, were promised by the recruiters a good life but when they arrived in the city in August 2023, they were forced to work at a bar along Lakandula Street.

Against their will, the girls were made to serve liquors and cigarettes, and drink with or entertain the customers. The managers instructed them to tell customers they were 18 years old when asked.

The victims were left with no choice but to follow orders as they had no one to run to in Baguio.

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the girls was informed by their relatives that her daughter headed to the city for a job. She traveled to look for her girl. When she tracked her daughter to the bar, she asked for assistance from the police.

Elements of Abanao Police Station, with the aid of the Punong Barangay of Kagitingan and the City Social Welfare and Development Office, then proceeded to rescue the two minors.

Three suspects, including the bar manager, were arrested and will face criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act).
