2 NPAs killed in Cagayan ahead of Christmas Day

Cagayan, Philippines – Families of two suspected rebels marked Christmas with grief after their loved ones died in an armed encounter in Cagayan on December 23, just two days before the Holidays.

On said date, the 95th Infantry Battalion came face-to-face with at least 12 members of the Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan in Barangay San Carlos, Gattaran. This triggered a gunfight between the two groups that lasted for an hour.

5th Infantry Division announced that after the encounter, the government troops found the dead bodies of Alias Jero from General Santos City and a certain Jaja Maria Valencia of Tatalon, Quezon City.

Two days after the incident, the body of Valencia was claimed by her twin and family for a chance to be with her for the last time and to also give her a decent burial.

“Ang masaya sanang pagtatagpo sa araw ng kapaskuhan ng magkambal ay nauwi sa lungkot at pighati matapos makita nito ang kaniyang kambal sa loob ng kabaong,” the 5ID described the reunion of the twins.

On December 25, moreover, authorities discovered war materials believed to have belonged to the same group they clashed with on December 23.

Said materials include an R4 rifle, M16A1 rifle, bandolier, medical paraphernalia, documents, and other personal belongings of the Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan.
