2 soldiers shot in armed encounter in Balbalan, Kalinga

Balbalan, Kalinga – Two soldiers were injured after two consecutive encounters with suspected members of the communist terrorist group in Balbalan on Friday, May 31, 2024.

 

The two were identified by the military as Cpl Jonard L. Addatu and PFC Rojemar A. Cuyen.

 

According to the 5th Infantry Division, troops of the 503rd Infantry Brigade first encountered around 10 suspected members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla (KLG) Baggas around 10:30 a.m. of said day in Balbalan Proper.


The rebels scampered away, but after nearly three hours, the armed group who were then trying to evade the teams of 503rd had re-encounter in Balantoy which prompted another gunfight.

 

The second exchange of fire resulted in the injury of Addatu and Cuyen who were both rushed to the hospital and are now in a stable condition.

 

War materials seized by the authorities from the two incidents include M14 rifle, Springfield rifle, M16 rifle, improvised explosive devices, ammunitions, blasting caps, and other belongings of the KLG Baggas.
