2 students buried alive while digging a hole in Solana, Cagayan


Solana, Cagayan – Two students in Solana, Cagayan died after getting buried under the hole they made while building a dugout near the Cagayan River.


The victims were identified as Niño Chris Baggayan, 13, a high school student, and A-jay Lumabao, 10, a Grade 6 pupil. Both are residents of Purok 2, Barangay Andarayan North, Solana.


The report from the Cagayan Police Provincial Office revealed that the two victims, along with a certain Andrew Cambri, went to the said area at around 4 PM on June 10, 2022. They tried excavating the sandy formation, supposedly to build a dugout.

The formation, however, collapsed while the three were digging, causing Baggayan and Lumabao to be buried under.


Cambri, who was able to evade the mishap, went to ask for help from the nearby residents.


After retrieving the victims from the area, the victims were brought to the hospital for immediate medical attention.


At 11:37 PM on June 10, Baggayan was declared dead. Lumabao likewise expired at 6:40 AM on June 11 while undergoing treatment at St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City.
