2-yr.-old boy in San Mateo, Isabela drowned while playing in irrigation canal

San Mateo, Isabela – A 2-year-old boy lost his life after drowning in an irrigation canal in San Mateo, Isabela, on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

The police report disclosed that the 2-year-old boy and his older brother were playing near their house in Barangay San Roque when the incident occurred.

Residents of the barangay who witnessed the incident retrieved the victim's body and attempted to save his life. Thinking that the child was already dead, his parents decided to take him home instead of rushing him to a hospital.

When the incident was made known to members of MDRRMO - San Mateo, they promptly responded and conducted CPR on the victim.

The authorities discovered that the boy still had a pulse, so they transported him to a hospital immediately. However, the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

The mother of the child, meanwhile, told the police that she was washing dishes when the victim followed his brother to the irrigation canal, resulting in the incident.
