20 damaged houses, 14,865 affected families in Cordillera due to Typhoon Julian

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Typhoon Julian, which is expected to return this October 2 in the country’s area of responsibility, left 20 totally and partially-damaged houses in the Cordillera, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

 

The latest data of said agency also disclosed that 14,865 families in the region have been affected by the heavy rains and strong winds that the typhoon brought in Northern Luzon. Said families are composed of 52,285 individuals.

 

These came from 149 barangays across various provinces in the Cordillera.

 

Out of these affected individuals, 140 families or 391 persons are now staying in evacuation centers.

 

Immediate assistance in the form of relief goods was already provided by DSWD, LGUs, NGOs, and other partner agencies.

 

Meanwhile, as per report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, one person in the Cordillera, particularly in San Juan, Abra, went missing during the onslaught of the typhoon.

 

Sources have identified the missing person as a certain Eduard Beranilla, 38, and a resident of Cabcaburao, San Juan, Abra.

 

The victim, when they tried to cross along with his cousin,  was said to have been swept away by the swollen river in the area.
