21 hurt after jeep flips on Sta. Ana, Cagayan road

Sta. Ana, Cagayan – Twenty-one people ended up in the hospital after the jeepney they were riding flipped onto its side in Sta. Ana, Cagayan morning of Friday, December 15.

Thirty-nine people, including children, were on board the jeep. Fortunately, said children only suffered minor abrasions.

In an interview with the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, Santa Ana Deputy Chief of Police, PCapt. Elixer Reolalas relayed that the involved jeep came from Tuao and was heading toward Nangaramoan Beach Resort when the incident happened.

The driver, Victor Agcaoili, 49, told police that when they reached the downhill part of the road, he lost control of the steering wheel after the jeep's brakes malfunctioned.

He added that he avoided the possibility of them falling off a ravine, resulting in him directing the jeep against the side of the road, causing it to tip over onto its side.

It was further known that the jeep was rented by a Baptist Church religious group for a picnic at the said beach resort.

At present, the vehicle is now in the custody of Sta. Ana Municipal Police Station for further investigation while the injured passengers are now in stable condition.
