21-yr.-old miner drowns in Sablan, Benguet's Towing Falls

Sablan, Benguet - A 21-year-old miner drowned in Sablan Benguet's Towing Waterfalls on Monday, January 2, just a month after the attraction's reopening.

The casualty, identified as Leoncio Joe Balag-ey Lang-ay, went swimming at the waterfalls along with his two friends on said date.

While his two friends were enjoying the water, Lang-ay dived to where the two were swimming. The two were unaware that Lang-ay does not know how to swim.

The two waited for their friend to appear but did not come out after a few minutes, urging them to report the incident to authorities.

With the help of BFP Sablan, residents, and volunteer rescuers, they were able to retrieve the victim moments later.

After performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim, authorities later ferried him to the Benguet General Hospital.

The physician tried to revive the victim but was declared dead at 1:56 PM.

The tourist spot, meantime, is now temporarily closed to tourists.
