21-yr.-old man drowns in Pasil stream while on picnic

Pasil, Kalinga – Authorities in Kalinga are reminding the public to always take extra precaution when going out for a swim following a drowning incident in Pasil on Friday, September 13, 2024.

 

Kalinga Police Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip relayed to GURU Press Cordillera that the incident involved a 21-year-old laborer from Balbalan Proper. Said victim along with his relatives went for a swim in a stream in Balinciagao Sur around 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

 

The man was described to know how to swim that’s why his companions did not mind when he went to the deep part of the water.

 

“Based on investigation, dagitoy ket agkakabagyan da nga napan lang nag-picnic idiay. I-tattan, isuna met daytoy[victim], ammu na met iti aglangoy. Tatta binay-bay-an da nga napan kanu tinmapog idiay waig,” Manganip relayed.

 

While the victim knew how to swim, his companions were suddenly alerted when he was nowhere to be found. This prompted them to search for him.

 

The 21-year-old was later found by his companions. However, he was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Lubuagan.

 

With the incident, Manganip is reminding the public to be always on guard when they go out for a swim. He particularly mentioned those under the influence of liquor to avoid going to the waters, if possible. Should they insist, they should remain at the shallow area.
