Deadly brawl in Bontoc, Mt. Province started with refusal to give 10 pesos – Police investigation

Bontoc, Mt. Province – The deadly brawl that gave fatal injuries to a 22-year-old criminology student in Bontoc, Mt Province, started with a refusal to give P10.00 to suspects.

 

The student’s untimely death was confirmed to have been caused by injuries he sustained from a brawl that occurred at a drinking establishment in said town on April 6. 

 

CCTV footage circulating on social media shows a chaotic scene outside a restobar, where a group of about 8-10 young individuals was involved in a fight. 

 

According to police reports, the victim and his companions were drinking when one of the suspects approached them and asked for P10.00. When the request was denied, tensions rose and quickly escalated into a brawl. 

 

The victim, Jeffgart Dongpopen, was seriously injured during the incident and was rushed to the hospital. Despite receiving medical treatment, he passed away on April 8.

 

Based on a medical report examining the cause of death, the victim, Jeffgart Dongpopen, died from brain herniation syndrome and severe traumatic injuries directly linked to the assault he suffered during the brawl. 

 

According to ABS-CBN news, police have already identified the other individuals involved in the fight.

 

Meanwhile, Bontoc Mayor Jerome Tudlong Jr. has since urged the public to cooperate with the authorities to ensure a swift and thorough investigation.
