22-yr.-old man who killed his girlfriend's mom in Baguio arrested

Baguio City, Philippines – A young man suspected of killing the mother of his minor girlfriend is now facing the charges filed against him following his arrest over the weekend.

To recall, Floradel Ocap De Mesa, 39, a native of Masbate, was found dead by her son, 17, at their residence in Purok 8, Sampaguita Site, San Luis, Baguio City around 5 a.m. of July 11.

The victim’s husband was then at the hospital and Floradel was supposed to relieve their son but no one arrived.

The hospitalized man tried to call his wife but her phone was turned off. Sensing something is wrong, he ordered his son to go home and check on her.

Their son saw their house door locked which made him curious since he knew their mom and his 3-year-old brother was inside. He immediately destroyed the lock and was shocked to discover her mother bathing in her own blood, with his baby brother sleeping beside her.

Floradel sustained four stab wounds and six incised wounds.

That same day, the 13-year-old daughter of the deceased went missing, along with around P125,000 cash loaned by Floradel’s husband for his supposed operation. Their daughter’s boyfriend was also nowhere to be found.

With information gathered by the intelligence group of the authorities, the 22-year-old suspect hidden by the name “Karl” from Malakas St., Quezon City was tracked to his rented room in Tumauini, Isabela.

On Sunday, he was finally arrested by the personnel of the Baguio City Police Office, in coordination with Tumauini Police Station.

The victim’s daughter who was believed to have been abducted by the suspect was rescued, the police said.

The rescued minor turned over to the police an 11-inch knife with black casing owned by the suspect which is said to be the weapon used in killing Floradel.

On Tuesday, cases of consented abduction of a minor and robbery with homicide were filed against “Karl” before the Office of the City Prosecutors.

He was detained at Baguio City Jail, while the minor was taken into custody by City Social Welfare and Development Office.
