23 farmer groups in Apayao get P11.2M agricultural units to boost crop production

Luna, Apayao - A total of P11.2 million worth of agricultural machineries and equipment from the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera have been distributed to 23 qualified Farmers' Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) in Apayao.

Each group of farmers received 2 units of 4-wheel tractors, 2 units of combine harvesters, 3 pull-type tractors, 3 mechanical rice trans-planters, 12 units of water pump, and 1 unit of 4-wheel drive tractor during the turnover ceremony last Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at Tumog, Luna, Apayao.

The distribution of said agricultural equipment is in line with the country’s Department of Agriculture rice and corn program, which aims to help the farmers boost their crop production for enough supply of food and to reduce poverty in the country.

As cited by the Apayao Provincial Public Information Office, said aid is a huge help to farmers in the province since some of them are relying only on rain and small communal watering systems for their crops, due to limited access to water irrigation.

Funding for said interventions was taken from DA’s banner programs which encompass various areas of services, such as Production Support Services, Market Development Services, and Irrigation Network services, among others.

During the ceremony, Regional Corn Coordinator Gerardo P. Banawa emphasized the importance of the given units saying, "Dakkel a tulong dagituy nga machineries para kadagiti farmers tayu tapno mapalag-an ti ubra da."

Meanwhile, Provincial Agriculturist Prudencio Bosing encourages the yApayao farmers to remain united and support one another in their agricultural endeavors.
