Baguio City, Philippines – Being among the 23 local government units in the Cordillera Region conferred the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award, 21 towns, 1 province, and a city government received their monetary rewards on Monday, January 15.

The 23 LGUs received over P74 million in incentives to fund their priority projects during the awarding held at Senator Nene Pimentel Hall at the DILG-CAR office in Baguio City.

Mt. Province, being the sole province awardee in the region, received P4 million, while Tabuk City was awarded P2.3 million.

The other 21 include Bucay, Danglas, Dolores, La Paz, Pennarubia, San Juan, and Tayum in Abra; Conner, Luna, Pudtol, and Santa Marcela in Apayao; Asipulo, Kiangan, and Lagawe in Ifugao; Pasil and Rizal in Kalinga; and Bauko, Besao, Bontoc Sabangan, and Tadian in Mountain Province.

The said municipalities were granted P1.8 million each.

Decreed through Republic Act 11292, the SGLG, an incentive, honor, and recognition-based program, serves as a prime mover for LGUs to continue working progressively in various governance areas.

To qualify for the award, an LGU must excel across various governance areas, including financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance, and responsiveness.

It also assesses other governance areas such as sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace, and order, environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture, and the arts, and youth development.
