23-yr.-old Igorota becomes World’s No. 1 female Muaythai athlete

With perseverance, you can definitely achieve anything – not even young age can get in the way. This is the example set by a 23-year-old Igorota who has recently become the World’s No. 1 female Muaythai athlete.

Just this August 27, the Philippine Sports Commission announced that Islay Erika Bomogao climbed the ranks and was named by the International Federation of Muaythai Associations the no. 1 in the 45kg female elite category.

Coming next to Bomogao, who is from Benguet, is Huynh Ha Huu Hieu of Vietnam, and the third is Hattan Alsaif of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Igorota climbed the top rank in her division and earned 1,920 points after her latest fight this August where she defeated Australia’s Muaythai state champion, Sarah Kwa in their match held in Kenwick, Australia.

As young as 23, Bomogao has won several international fights which include the SEA Games. Her notable wins where she won gold were Jincheon 1st World Youth Martial Arts Masterships and the 2018 International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) Youth World Championships.

Adding to her titles is the history she made when she was named the first Filipino female world Muaythai champion after collecting two medals in the 2023 IFMA Senior World Championships.

Among the people and organizations Bomogao acknowledged for this feat include the Muaythai Association of the Philippines saying, “Who knew that the little nakmuay you drafted 7 years ago would get here.”
