24-year-old soldier from Pinukpuk, Kalinga killed in Nueva Ecija clash

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 24-year-old yKalinga soldier from Pinukpuk died after an armed encounter in Nueva Ecija at 10 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2022, according to Philippine Army.


In a report by the 84th Infantry (Victorious) Battalion, the encounter happened while the troop was having a combat operation against the group of Communist New People's Army Terrorist (CNT) in Barangay Rio Chico, General Tinio, Nueva Ecija.


In said firefight, Private Jaylord Hipolito from Catabbogan, Pinukpuk sacrificed his life while a comrade named by government troops as Private First-Class Francis D. Lictawa was injured.

Hipolito is the eldest child of five siblings and only entered the service in 2021.


According to a relative, his remains shall be brought home this evening of September 2.


In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Enrico Gil C. Ileto, the Commanding Officer of 84IB, extended his sympathies to the family and friends of Hipolito, stating that the protection of people against the terrorist led to this ultimate sacrifice.


Meantime, Ileto vowed to keep up the rigorous, focused military operation in the area.


"We believe that the enemy also suffered a number of casualties. Malaking dagok itong engkwentro na ito laban sa teroristang NPA na matagal nang namamayagpag sa gahaman na panlilinlang sa mga locals sa kabundukan ng Barangay Rio Chico. Simula na ito ng tuluyan nilang pagbagsak", Ltc Ileto said.
