241 students in Santa Marcela, Apayao join 2024 “Sports Clinic”

Santa Marcela, Apayao - With a total of 241 student participants, the Municipality of Santa Marcela, Apayao kicked-off its 2024 “Sports Clinic” on Wednesday, July 10, at the EKB Memorial Sports Center.

The event’s opening program was graced by Apayao Board Member Mariah Chelsea Bulut-Cunan who served as the guest speaker.

Cunan, in her speech, emphasized the importance of sports saying, "Sports help us develop our holistic being. Sports help build good discipline. Your whole being is tested. You win and you lose. Remember, losing is a part of winning. You never know what it feels like to win if you never lose."

Santa Marcela Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez, who spearheaded the program, enjoined the youth to enjoy the event, make friends, and practice sportsmanship. Among the takeaways from the event, she said, would be the bond and camaraderie with fellow youth along with the skills and lessons they will learn and develop in the 10-day event.

Anchored on this year’s theme: “Exercising Body and Mind To promote Activating Youngster Against Mayhem(AYAM)”, the sports clinic aims to boost both the physical and mental wellness of the participants and at the same time to keep them away from harmful vices.

The sports lined up for the event are basketball, volleyball, badminton, and martial arts. The sports clinic will end on July 19, 2024.
