Bontoc, Mountain Province – Residents of twenty-five barangays in Mt. Province will soon have faster internet connectivity as they were provided free Starlink units by the Department of Information and Communications Technology-Cordillera on February 6, 2025.

The provision of said units is part of the agency’s Free Wi-Fi for All Program. The program aims to provide fast, free, and secure internet access in hardly reached areas in the country.

As cited by a media near the area, the barangays in said province who benefited from the program are Fiangtin and Macalana in Barlig;  Balintaugan, Bagnen Oriente, Bagnen Proper, and Mabaay in  Bauko;  Tamboan and Soquib in Besao;  Alab Proper, Balili, and Bayyo in Bontoc.

Other barangays include Banawel, Pudo, and Sta. Isabel in Natonin; Capinitan, Data, and Tambingan in Sabangan; Madongo, Pide, Tetepan, and Patay in Sagada; and Cagubatan, Pandayan, and Tue in Tadian.

DICT-CAR Regional Director Reynaldo Sy and Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. led the turnover of Starlink units to the beneficiaries earlier this week.

“Sa programang ito, gusto po naming mapuna ang pag kukulang ng ating mag-aaral, mga senior citizens, at ating mga OFWs sa pamamagitan ng pro-provide ng connectivity sa pagtutulungan ng local government at national government,” Sy said during the distribution.

Before the turnover of Starlink units, the DICT-CAR trained the government personnel on how to install and maintain said Wi-Fi equipment for the betterment of their community.
