27-yr.-old from Sta. Marcela, Apayao joins the US Navy

Updated: Jul 2

Cordillerans have proven over the past years that they can definitely still soar higher and achieve their aspirations even when they are oceans away from home. One of these is the 27-year-old native of Santa Marcela, Apayao who recently joined the ranks of the United States Navy.

Ran Deither Jake Rico who was born in Santa Marcela on August 7, 1997 is one of the newest sailors in the US Navy who graduated from the boot camp on June 20. This is after he successfully completed a 10-week intensive training to equip aspiring sailors with necessary skills in the fleet.

Ran began his journey to becoming a sailor when he left for the US in 2019. Through his uncle who accompanied him to the navy office every day, he was able to pursue mechanical engineering which is a step into fulfilling his dream of joining the navy.

According to Santa Marcela Local Government Unit, Ran later earned a spot for a training in the naval aviation due to his exceptional performance in the entrance examination. This will be a stepping stone for him in becoming a navy pilot.

Ran is currently stationed in Florida for his A-school training.

With this success of a Santa Marcela son, the provincial LGU headed by Governor Elias Bulut Jr. and Santa Marcela Mayor Evelyn Martinez couldn’t be prouder. Said officials commended Ran and wishes him well in his next journey.
