27-yr.-old police officer from Kalinga dies while on mission to arrest suspect in Apayao

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A team of police officers in Apayao set out on a mission to catch the suspect of a shooting incident in Calanasan when a tragic incident happened on Friday, December 6.

 

The seven-man team included a young and new police officer from Nambaran, Tabuk City, Kalinga, Patrolman Resty P. Bayog who was 27 years old.

 

Bayog and his comrades needed to cross the Apayao River in Langnao, Calanasan during their operation on said day. However, the incessant rain in the province caused the water level to rise producing harsher water currents. Unfortunately, their boat capsized while they were crossing.

 

Four of the seven police officers were said to have managed to save themselves from the ill-fate while three of them identified to be Bayog, Pat. John Lorenzo Togay-an Jr. from Benguet, and Pat. Pat Halteric Quezon Pallat from Apayao got dragged by the water and drowned.

 

Authorities first recovered the body of Pallat on December 6 in Kabugao while Bayog was found the following day, December 7. Togay-an was retrieved by the search and retrieval team in Flora on December 8.

 

The body of Bayog was already ferried home to Ileb, Nambaran.

 

Among those who came to give their respect to the fallen iKalinga is PCol. Gilbert Fati-ig, the Kalinga Police Provincial Director who visited the wake and condoled with the bereaved family on Sunday, December 8.  Fati-ig and his men came with a wreath and extended the financial assistance from the PNP. 

 

The 27-year-old will be brought to his resting place on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
