28-yr.-old man accidentally kills fellow hunter in Kiangan, Ifugao

Kiangan, Ifugao - A 28-year-old man accidentally shot to death his companion on a weekend wild deer hunt in Mount Alibut-tung, Barangay Bokiawan, Kiangan, according to police.

Based on police accounts, the victim – Fredie Ananayo Yogyog, 43 and the suspect Lener Layagon Tobiagon, 28 headed to the forested area of their place to hunt for wild deer at around 12:30 on Sunday.

Even without catching any wild deer, the two decided to stay and go home morning of Monday, September 5.

While on their way home, they saw fresh footprints of wild deer and agreed to hunt separately for said wild animals in the off chance that they could be still present in the area.

Moments later, the younger hunter noticed some movements in a bushy area. With the assumption that it was the wild deer they were following, this prompted him to fire at the area.

It was already late when he realized that he accidentally shot the victim.

The suspect, as of press time, already surrendered to Kiangan police and appropriate charges were filed against him.

As to the firearm used in the shooting, police are still in search for it as it was not surrendered by the suspect.
