29-yr.-old vendor arrested for stealing P64k funeral donation in Cagayan

Solana, Cagayan – A vendor accused of stealing a funeral donation amounting to at least P64,000 in Sampaguita, Solana on Sunday, September 10, is now facing burglary charges.

The suspect was identified by police as Alias 'Maris’, 29 years old, single, and a resident of Maguirig, Solana.

She was pinpointed by the 59-year-old husband of the deceased to have stolen the donation money that was collected during his wife's wake.

According to him, he noticed the donation he kept in his room was missing on that day. After informing the neighborhood, a witness told him about the accused entering his room.

With the information, the widower immediately reported the incident to the barangay.

Along with the barangay officials, the victim went to the suspect's residence. It was then confirmed that she stole approximately P64,000, but she only returned P25,000 to the victim.

At present, the suspect is in police custody for documentation and proper disposition, according to a report by the Cagayan Provincial Information Office.
