4-day-old infant abandoned in Pidigan, Abra

Pidigan, Abra – A 3 to 4-day-old baby girl wrapped in a cloth and placed in an eco-bag was abandoned at a residential compound in Barangay Poblacion West, Pidigan, Abra on Thursday, Oct. 5.

While doing the laundry, a certain Ailyn Pilar saw two women who passed by their residence around 3:00 AM on said date.

Afraid that they might be burglars, she called her husband to check the harvested and ready-for-drying 'palay' which they put outside their house.

Instead of thieves, the two heard a baby crying as they passed by their neighbor's house. They ignored it at first, thinking it was just a cat.

When the baby started wailing again, the husband and wife realized it was not simply a cat after all, urging them to start looking for it.

They found the baby inside the compound, just near the gate of a certain Dennis Dumlao.

When found, Ailyn claimed that the baby was wearing some clothes but did not have a diaper.

They then notified the police of what they found, prompting the police force to coordinate with the social welfare office in said municipality.

A probe is now underway to determine who abandoned the infant.

The husband and wife, meantime, said that they had not seen any of their neighbors become pregnant, suggesting that the person who left the child may not have been from their neighborhood.

When asked about the possibility of the two women leaving the baby, Ailyn was unsure since she did not see the two ladies who passed by their neighbor's house committing the act.
