Updated: Aug 27, 2022

Isabela, Philippines – A group of men has been recently charged with Direct Assault after allegedly hurting a police officer, stealing his cellphone and service firearm in Tumauini, Isabela.

The Police Regional Office II, in a press release, identified the victim as Patrolman Harold Tandayu of Tumauini Isabela.

Based on the report, it was around 11:00 in the evening on August 15 when Tandayu saw three men riding a single motorcycle wobbling on the road.

This prompted the police to flag them and check what was going on. Instead of cooperating with the police officer, they stopped and attacked him.

It was said that the suspects ganged upon the police officer and held both his hands while one of them strangled the victim as he tried to fight them off using his hands, avoiding the use of his firearm.

The police officer was overpowered and the three suspects, after injuring the police, took his cellphone and service firearm.

The PNP Tumauini, after being informed of the incident, immediately launched a hot pursuit operation which led to the arrest of the three suspects identified by the police as Basilio Lugo Jr, 45; Jayson Rico, 34; and Loyfrey Lugo, 39.
